100L split diy solar water heater

How to DIY solar water heater?

Take a example for 100L split solar water heater .

You will got the following packages:

1 carton heat pipe evacuated solar tubes 

1 carton 100L solar water heater tank

1 carton solar water heater workstation 

1 carton manifold and aluminum alloy bracket

1 lot copper  or stainless steel pipeline and fittings (you can get from us ,or get in local)

We need to prepare installation tools: fixer for screws,gloves,treatment tools for pipeline.

First DIY solar water heater  core part :solar collector.

If you are in southern Hemisphere,installed the solar collector direct to face North.

If opposite, then solar collector  faces south direction.

1.Install the frame first ,see the frame install drawing

2.Following the steps

Step1:first install the nylon cap on the bottom track,then screw off the jacket from the cap

Step2:put the heat conduction liquid on the condenser of heat pipe.

Step3:Insert the vacuum tube inside the nylon cap

(be careful:don't touch the vacuum tube on the ground,or it will be broken)

Step4:Hold the vacuum tube tightly,then insert it inside the opposite hole(copper cap)which on  the monifold slowly. 

Step5:Screw the jacket on the nylon cap.

Specification for our solar collector:

Direct-flow Header: High quality red copper Φ35*1.0mm, inlet & outlet Φ22mm

Manifold Shell: High-quality black/ gray aluminum alloy 2mm

Insulation: High-density compression-moulded rockwool 50mm

 Heat-pipe Tube: Three-target coated vacuum tube, Φ14mm condensor copper heat pipe, Aluminium fin, silicon tube seal

Mounting Frame: Black/ gray aluminum alloy 1.8mm, universal bracket suitable for roof or exterior wall installation

 Accessories: Thermal paste,copper connectors,Stainless fasteners

 Working Pressure: 6.0 Bar

  Anti-freezing: > - 40°C

Double Attention: Be careful while install vacuum tube to manifold, especially end tip of tube .

After finished installed solar collector .

Next  DIY  solar water heater tank should be consider to installed in bathroom or baseroom.

It is simple to install tank, we just need to installed PT valve and one way vavle to the tank.

We have different capacity size of solar water heater tank for choose.Following is the data for referrence.

solar water heater tank has heat exchanger (usually copper coil ),some bad water quality area,we suggest stainless steel 316L material coil as heat exchanger.

This coil plays the role of heat exchange with the solar collector heat energy for heating the tank water.

Commonly one coil as heat exchange for solar colletor is enough,but consider the other heating equipment or other purpose use,we can added more heat exchanger.

So we usually suggest you take two coil for preservation.

For the lookout of solar water heater tank,we have different out tank steel for different choose.

Such as 304 stainless steel ,anti-rust. 201-BA bright stainless for shinning looking, and color steel (white,red,blue) colorful for optional.

Since the solar collector and solar water heater tank are ready, we can installed third main part: DIY  solar water heater workstation

Workstation is the brain of solar water heater system,it is composed by solar water heater controller, circulation pump,pressure guage,safty vavle.

The controller display the temperature of solar collector and tank.

While temperature difference between solar collector and solar water heater tank reaches setting valve, the pump works to exchange heat from solar collector to tank.

While cloudy day,the water is not hot, controller can control the electric heater of tank to work for getting hot water.

It is a intellegent brain device.

Usually the worksation is installed beside the water tank for easy manual controll. 

For installation, you can use two expansion screw to fix the workstaion on the wall.

All three main parts are ready, we can DIY  solar water heater pipeline.

Step one connect the coil outlet port to workstation ,then to inlet of solar collector (which has no sensor port).

After that connect outlet of solar collector which with sensor port back to tank coil inlet .

This is the loop for heat exchange between tank and solar collector , the workstation helps active working by circulation pump.

            Red circle mark A is device for filling fluid                                 Attention sensor port need to be installed outlet .

After pipeline,  do filling anti-freezen fluid to the pipeline.

Using diving pump to push the fluid from container to Red mark A inlet ,after the fluid is full from pipeline,the fluid will flow out from mark A outlet port.

Then wait a moment to make sure no air in pipeline for better system working.

Next do the electric power job.

Installed controller box on the wall and connect the sensors and pump wire to box according to controller manuall step by step.

Place the sensor 1 to the solar collector sensor port at outlet side of collector and place the sensor 2 to the tank .

After all, turn on the electric power.

DIY solar water heater job is done .

1. Air vent:

   when there are many solar collector connect in lines. There maybe produce air in pipeline.

   In order to protect the solar water heater system, we need to installed air vent at last solar collector of outlet side.

2. motorized valve : three way and two way

   three way valve helps to change the heat exchange way for different purpose.

   Take example, if there is additional heat, we can use three way motorized valve to change solar collector exchange way instead of with solar tank.

   Two way vavle plays a role to close or open circulation loop.

3.brazed heat exchanger 

   It is removable and installed outside of tank.

   When more heat exchanger purpose is needed, brazed heat exchanger is a nice device.

4.solar bolts

   It is widely used for slop roof, when the roof is flat,we can design the frame of solar collector with stand legs.

   But if for slop roof, there is no need of stand legs, the solar bolts and hooks are needed.

5.flexible pipeline

   Beside the copper pipeline, we also have another easy installation pipeline.

   Flexible stainless steel pipeline,easy to operate for pipeline.

   Long lifetime and anti-rust material 304 and 316L is available.

6.Thermostant mixing valve

Thermostant mixing valve helps to offer the termostant temperature for shower.

It is fixed in the usage hot water side.
